Salish Sailors are folks who “muck around in boats,” mostly human or wind powered, on this watery playground called the Salish Sea. The Salish Sea encompasses all of Puget Sound, the Straits of Juan de Fuca, and northward through the inside passage of British Columbia. We number in the hundreds of thousands. Difficult to count, since not all boats are registered, however the State of Washington currently has over 130,000 registered boats in and around Puget Sound. So there are a lot of us and we are a varied bunch: ethnically we are from all over the world and from right here in the lands of the First Nations and Native Americans. Some of our commonalities:
- We love to be on the water.
- We are aware and sensitive to other boaters and to the natural world.
- We love and respect the creatures of the air and sea with whom we share this amazing place.
- We look for opportunities to share what we know with other boaters.
The mission of Salish Sailors is to encourage one another to explore, enjoy, and protect this magical place we call home.
